Apprenticeships & STEM Careers Fair was a great success!

10 March 2017

We opened our doors on Wednesday 8 March to the general public from all over Berkshire to offer help and advice on apprenticeships and careers in STEM subjects.

Campbell Christie CBE, College Principal said:

“These events are important to help young people and their parents make informed decisions and I should like to thank all the local employers who came and helped to make the day such a great success”.

“I was delighted to see our current apprentices excelling themselves in the support they provided; giving first-hand accounts of their own apprentice experiences whilst working at the college”.

Students met employers to find out how to register for an apprenticeship on the national apprenticeship database and also spoke with the College’s own industry experienced Apprentice Team.  They also found out about opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and talked to some of the young apprentices who are currently working on the College’s own staff.

Cllr Mary Temperton came to find out more about apprenticeships for herself and talked to the College’s Head of Apprentices Team, Louise Gigg, and one of the College’s own apprentices, Dan Emmott who is taking a Business Administration apprenticeship.

 Mary said:
“I found the event very informative and very interesting. I was not aware of all the different types of apprenticeships nor the levels, nor the fact that they can include all age ranges and abilities. I was encouraged by the increased interest in uptake by the businesses in Bracknell Forest.

“I think this was a very valuable experience for your students, to help them plan for their future studies and training. I think the

general public also benefitted by seeing the huge range of apprenticeships possible. Some may be in the position to offer apprenticeships in their own company.

“I think apprenticeships are very valuable, where people work at their chosen job and learn at the same time. By offering to support their work force through apprenticeships, many firms could show their employees they are valued, and the employees will gain extra qualifications.

“With the new town refurbishment, the increase in retail and business apprenticeships was encouraging. I was also very encouraged to talk with the providers of the Care apprenticeships, encouraging career progression in the 'Care Industries', on which we will be more and more dependent.”
The College’s next event is an Open Event 8 May. However in the meantime why not order a prospectus online and apply today: or contact our apprenticeship team –
