Bracknell & Wokingham College Open Event is a success!

27 February 2017

On Saturday 25 February, we opened our doors to school leavers from all over the county offering help and advice on all options open to them post GCSE.

Students were given the opportunity to talk to tutors about A levels, vocational courses or take part in an Apprenticeship talk with the option to register on the national Apprenticeship database to start the process of finding a position early.  Current students were also on hand to give a personal insight of life in the college and to show the prospective students around.

As an unusual extra, BBC Radio Berkshire's Anoushka Williams dropped by on the Peach Quest to be given the 4th clue in that day's Quest and to talk to Principal Campbell Christie CBE about the Open Event and the forthcoming Apprentices Open Evening on Wednesday 8 March.

 Campbell said:

"These events are important to help young people and their parents make informed decisions.  They also help to show how college can support students during their course and when it comes to finding the right university or job when they finish college".

"I was delighted to see our current student volunteers excelling themselves in the support they provided on the day; either through taking prospective learners around the building or helping in the classrooms, giving first-hand accounts of their own college experiences".

The College was bustling all day with people making the most of the opportunity to find out more about the wide choice of courses available on their doorsteps, and the Star Café was full with students sharing information and asking questions.

Head of Student Services Jon Samson, said:

"The college Student Services team provide confidential non-judgemental support to all students during their time with us, to ensure that all students are able to fulfil their potential and enjoy their time at the College".

Jon added, "We work very closely with the Curriculum Tutors and the Pastoral Tutors to provide a really comprehensive support package for every student – we know each of our students well as the individuals they are!"

Our next event is the Apprenticeship Evening on 8 March and we will also hold another full Open Event on 28 June.  However in the meantime why not order a prospectus online and apply today!
