Our sports hall was transformed into a glamorous venue for our annual Achiever Awards, a glittering ceremony dedicated to our students’ achievements.

The Achiever Awards are given to students because of their outstanding effort and passion for their course. As well as high achieving academic students, the awards also celebrate those who have overcome adversity to excel in their particular course area.

Guests were welcomed to the event on the red carpet by photographers taking ‘paparazzi’ style photos, and were then taken to their tables for drinks and canapés created by our Hospitality students. Guests then enjoyed entertainment from our Performing Arts students before the ceremony got underway.

The lucky award winners and their families and friends were joined by guests from local businesses and the local mayors of both Bracknell and Wokingham.

Bradley Phillips received an award for Electrical Installation. His tutor said on his nomination form that he was an excellent student all year round and was thoroughly deserving of the award.

Bradley said after receiving his award:

“It felt really good to win an award, to be one of the best at my level in the course and I also won a whole set of CK hand tools and I wasn’t expecting that which was really good.”

Councillor Bob Pitts, Mayor of Wokingham Borough was asked to present the awards to the students at the last minute, as the guest speaker was taken ill. Bob said:

“I thought it was fantastic, the achievement of some of the students is amazing, especially those that have overcome difficulties. I have a son with learning difficulties and I know how hard it is for some students to do things. It’s been an amazing evening and it’s been a privilege for me to be here.”

Campbell Christie CBE, Principal and CEO, closed the ceremony by praising the staff and students on their recent achievements:

“Tonight was all about the individuals, but I was quite keen to make sure that our community leaders and all of the families that were here were able to celebrate with us. We have achieved the best results in the whole of the Thames Valley area and that’s not just me saying that, that is the government statistics that have just been released, not just for achievement but also for employer and learner satisfaction.”
