College embraces week-long fundraising efforts

RAG Week 2015
Last week’s annual Raise and Give Week (RAG Week) saw students and staff of Bracknell & Wokingham College raise a massive £2,000 for Sebastian’s Action Trust and YoungMinds. In light of the terrible news from Nepal, a contribution to the Nepal Earthquake Appeal will also be made from the funds raised.

It was a jam packed week of activities involving students and staff not being afraid to look silly and take part in the programmed events – all in the name of charity.

There were cold water challenges, including one bucket of ‘gunge’ that was poured over Jon Samson, the unsuspecting Student Services Manager; there were bed pushes through Bracknell Town; wax-a-man which included Campbell Christie CBE, Principal, winning the vote for which male staff member should have their legs waxed; a photo booth set up and run by our Photography students; fancy dress throughout the week; a staff coffee and cake morning; Uniformed Public Services students walking the length of the Thames Path – covering a combined distance of 399.2 miles; Mutts Show 2015, staff and students brought along their pooches to see if they could be crowned ‘Mutt of the Year’; and much, much more besides.

A special thank you goes to Fit for Less who came in each day to put on a ‘Keep Fit Challenge’, testing contenders’ fitness in a range of trials using a rowing machine and spin bike.

Many businesses also showed their support for the college’s fundraising efforts by donating prizes for events; these were Bentalls, Boots, Bracknell Leisure Centre, Cheney’s, Dragon Nails, Game, GNC, The Perfume Shop, The Picture Company and Waterstones.

Deborah Wallace, Student Services Senior Support & Welfare Officer and one of RAG Week’s organisers, felt the week was a huge success:

“It was a great week and one that was enjoyed by both staff and students with something for everyone. It also gave the students the opportunity to find out what good sports Bracknell & Wokingham College staff are.

“RAG Week not only raised money and awareness for our two chosen charities but also helped students to perhaps develop new skills and try new things, experiences which they will be able take with them when they leave college.

“Student Services would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to make RAG Week such a successful event.”
