Jobs Fair 2015

Last week saw jobcentre plus and Bracknell & Wokingham College host their annual Jobs Fair together for the third consecutive year.

Over 60 exhibitors attended the fair offering advice, mock interviews, company insight and networking contacts to the 455 visitors who came to see what could be offered to them.

The event was opened by local Bracknell Forest Mayor Cllr Andy Blatchford and his wife Mayoress Ann Blatchford, Wokingham Borough Council Deputy Mayor Cllr Parry Batth, jobcentre plus Director Chris Guest, Bracknell & Wokingham College Principal Campbell Christie CBE, Past Bracknell Town Mayor Alvin Finch, Customer Services Operations Manager Jacqui Henson, and Employer Adviser, and organiser of the event, Mia Harris.

Bracknell Forest Mayor, Cllr Andy Blatchford, was delighted to have been invited to help open the fair:

"The Bracknell & Wokingham College is a beacon of excellence for providing training for both the boroughs of Wokingham and Bracknell Forest, and I am pleased to help promote this fantastic facility as a resource for the 770 people in the area that are currently seeking employment and for local employers who need workers, to come together and gain mutual benefit."

Chris Guest the Director for jobcentre plus, felt this event was important to help bring together employers and jobseekers:

“I came to show my support to my team who have organised this and to see in action the opportunities that are being made available by local employers.”

Leon Van Zweel, Owner of Fit4Less Bracknell, was an exhibitor at the fair. He said:

“I opened Fit4Less two years ago and employ locals from the area. I’m now looking for apprentices to join us and we’ve come today to find candidates and to show them what being an apprentice with us would involve. We’ve had lots of interest so far already and feel positive that we’ll make some good contacts here.”

Dawn Lane, 52, Bracknell, attended the fair:

“I’ll be starting a new job soon but wanted to come along anyway as these events can be useful for more than just finding a job. You can get back into education, get advice, they’re really valuable for people.”

Emily Wojcik, 18, Wokingham, came to the event to find out what’s available in the local area:

“I think I’ve found a bit more of a direction for me to head in now from coming here. I’ve spoken with G4S, Elevate and some others too and I’ve signed up to be contacted about an interview next week, so it’s been really useful for me.”
