Open Event Feb 2015

Bracknell & Wokingham College welcomed over 300 visitors to their Open Event on Wednesday 11 February. Guests met with tutors to discuss courses, routes to employment or higher education, and with current students to find out what college life is really like.

Principal Campbell Christie CBE and a panel of college representatives, including some of the current students, held a presentation and question and answer session in which the audience could pose any question to the panel about the college.

The college’s consecutive five year 100% success rate for A Levels and the recent announcement of the A Level Performance Tables results, with Bracknell & Wokingham College ahead of most local schools and colleges, there was lots of interest to be found at the A Level stall.

One parent commented about the event:

“The way the event was organised was brilliant. Having plenty of students to take the visitors round the building was a god send. The student we had was very informative, complimentary about the college and more than happy to answer any questions we had. All in all a very positive experience!”

The Open Event saw prospective students keen to claim their places on full-time courses starting next September with many applying on the day to secure their entry. Plenty of part-time courses were also enquired about with tutors and signed up for on the spot.

James Taylor, Vice Principal of Curriculum & Quality, was thrilled with the event turnout and could sense a buzz walking around the college. He said:

“These events are important to help young people and their parents make an informed decision together and understand how college can help them during their course and when it comes to finding a job when they finish college.

“We’ve also had some great interest from people wanting to find out more about the new part-time Business Studies Degree we’re running in collaboration with the University of Chichester.

“Our students excelled themselves in the support they provided, either through taking prospective learners around the building or helping in the classrooms giving accounts of their own experiences.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in the running of the Open Event and for all the hard work put in.”
