Students take pride in donated kit

Football Kit presentation

Bracknell & Wokingham College was delighted to welcome Helen Barnett, Head of Communications & Marketing for the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership as she presented the college football team with a new kit donated by the Pride of Bracknell Awards committee.

Each year the Pride of Bracknell Awards ceremony pays tribute to the unsung heroes of the town in a glittering Oscars style award ceremony. For the past three years this has been held at the college where the Sports Hall is transformed for the evening, and this relationship will continue in 2015.

Helen Barnett is the chief organiser of the event and explained why the event’s committee decided to make this donation to the college:

“One of the objectives of the Pride of Bracknell Awards is to help the community and we like to donate some of the money raised to local causes. We decided that as the hosts of the event we would like to give something back to the college and they requested a new football kit with this money.

The college’s support for the Pride of Bracknell Awards is amazing – they are a community college and it is a community event so the two things dovetail perfectly.

We are now working very hard on the 2015 event, which will once again be at the college on 17 April. We have a good number of sponsors who will be involved in the event and we are already receiving applications from some of our key contributors.”

The donation has been welcomed by the football team and team captain Scott Peacock said:

“The team are all really grateful for the donation. The kit is really professional looking and we all have a lot of pride when we wear it during games. It’s also very unique as everyone we play against seems to have a red or blue kit which means we never have to change kits which is good.”

Stuart Carrington, Senior Sport tutor at the college added:

“We are really thankful for the donation as we needed more kit and the football team is a valuable part of developing College pride.  It’s great to see local initiatives supporting the College which is a pillar of Bracknell’s community.

It’s very important for the sports department to receive gestures of goodwill, such as this and the sponsorship we get from Foundation Fitness, as without it many of our students would not have the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular activities.”
