New students give college the seal of approval

18 December 2014

Entry survey
The college is delighted with the results from a recent Entry Survey of students new to the college at the start of the 2013/14 academic year.

The survey was conducted 6 weeks into the new term with the aim of assessing the new students’ initial views and feelings about the college. The results are then collated in a report and fed back to the head of each course and department to help them to understand better what their students want and need from their course and from the college in general.

A total of 791 students completed the survey and the results show that their initial perceptions of college are extremely positive:

-          98% said that they are aware of the colleges commitment to ensuring equality

           and promoting diversity

-          97% said that they are aware of what support is available to them  at college

-          94% feel they can express their views at college

-          97% feel safe and know about safeguarding at the college

-          94% said that they have had the chance to discuss their individual needs

-          91% rate the quality of teaching as good or better

Entry Survey

Student Services manager James Langdon explained why this survey is so important to the college and what the results mean:

“It is so important for us to find out students’ first impressions of the college so that we know we have the right students on the right course and we are meeting their needs. We want students to know about the services available to them and to be aware of our commitment to safeguarding, their health and safety and to the promotion of equal opportunities.  This survey shows us that we are on the right track with our new 2013/14 students!”

Each year the college follows up the Entry Survey with an Exit Survey in the Summer term for those students moving on to ensure that these positive findings are maintained throughout a student’s life at college, and to find out where the students who have finished college are moving on to.
