College top of the class for careers advice and guidance

You can be sure you’ll get the highest standard of impartial information, advice and guidance at Bracknell & Wokingham College, as we are proud to announce our achievement in gaining the Matrix Accreditation.

Gaining this prestigious mark of excellence involved a week-long assessment; during which a matrix assessor interviewed staff, students and partner organisations and assessed the college’s procedures for giving guidance.

James Langdon, Student Services Manager, was delighted with the outcome of the assessment:

“More than 100 staff, students and college partners met the Matrix Assessor across three sites, Wick Hill, Woodley Hill House and Church Road.

“The assessor outlined a number of strengths and was very impressed with the way that students across the college are advised and supported in order to achieve their full potential.

“Thank you to all those that participated and helped us achieve this nationally recognised accreditation!”

The report highlights the effectiveness of the information, advice and guidance service that Bracknell & Wokingham College provides. It draws attention to the continually developing strategic plan to grow the business, empower delivery staff, and of the process to develop an infrastructure to support future developments.

The Matrix assessor's report identifies some of the college’s key strengths including, “The College not only provides students with hard outcomes such as qualifications and job opportunities, it also provides people with the success of softer outcomes such as improved confidence, self-esteem and general wellbeing.”

The report also states of the college’s service of information and guidance to the general community, “A major feature of the college provision is an expanding Apprenticeship programme and a broad range of training courses designed to meet the needs of local and regional employers.”

The report continues with the following statements, “All of the students interviewed confirmed staff are extremely supportive and offered an impartial service.”, and, “The [Careers] team enables students to choose a course which meets their needs, abilities and career aspirations and to develop their personal, learning, social and employability skills to be successful at college and beyond.”

The Matrix Assessor was impressed with the various ways the college chooses to communicate with its students and the general public; with the use of Facebook and Twitter, the Principal’s blog and regular reports sent to students and parents to let them know what is happening around the college.

The report also confirms the college’s ethos of students working towards their future and of helping them to stretch themselves to be all that they can be, “…The College uses a range of methods to continuously review the services delivered to students in order to work toward their aim of delivering learning experiences which support the individuals to achieve their personal goals.”
