College delighted with successful Open Event

18 December 2014

Open Event Nov 2013
The college was full of energy and excitement on Saturday 9 November as we welcomed 750 visitors to our Open Event. Students were able to meet with tutors to discuss courses, routes to employment or higher education, and college life in general.

Principal Campbell Christie CBE welcomed visitors to the Principal’s breakfast and lunch where they could enjoy some snacks whilst they listened to his talk about the college and how it could help them to achieve their goals. Visitors also had the opportunity to pose any questions they had to a panel of college representatives, including some of our current students.

Parent Lucy Sage of Wokingham who visited with her daughter said:

“What a positive experience! My daughter came out smiling. She had made up her mind to stay at senior school and do A Levels there, but after today’s visit to Bracknell & Wokingham College, she may have changed her mind. We were guided round by one of your students who was so helpful and full of good advice.”

The Open Event was an opportunity for prospective students and their parents to learn more about Employability Skills and how the college can help to make their students ‘Work Ready’. College is not just about students gaining their core qualification. It is also about them developing a range of skills and attributes which will enhance their prospects of getting and keeping a job as well as progressing in their chosen career.

James Taylor, Vice Principal of Curriculum & Quality said:

“These events are so important to help both students and parents understand how college can help them both during their course and when it comes to finding a job when they finish college.

The competition for all types of job is becoming increasingly tough and it is now more important than ever to employers that they are able to recognise the ability of applicants to succeed in the roles they are offering. Employers are not only looking for academic qualifications, they are also interested in attributes such as teamwork, problem solving, motivation and commitment. We believe that college is a great choice as it offers an alternative route into university or the workplace in an exciting and vibrant environment”.

If you missed this event the next Open Event is on Saturday 15 March, 10-2pm, but in the meantime the advice from the college is to get your applications in now – there is no obligation and they do not want you to miss out on a place.
