100% Pass Rate for A Level Students

18 December 2014

A Level Results 2014
Bracknell & Wokingham College students received their A Level results today, with a fantastic 100% pass rate for the fifth year running.

Head of A Levels, GCSEs and Creative Arts, Ginette Cox said:

Yet again our fantastic A Level students have done us proud.  The pressure was really on for students this year due to the government’s removal of the January exam period; everything rested on what they could do in the summer.

They have produced an excellent set of results, which is testament to their hard work and the tireless efforts of their teachers to go beyond class-time to provide as many revision sessions as possible, as well as formal assessment checks throughout the year.  How fantastic to watch students turn up for Maths club at 8.00am in the morning and others staying until 5.30pm at night for additional Accounting sessions.

We aim to add value to every student that walks through our door so that when they leave they are ready for whatever they set their sights on, be it university or employment.  We can help make that happen.”

Principal & Chief Executive, Campbell Christie CBE, added:

“It has been another very successful year for our A Level students with a 100% pass rate for the fifth consecutive year. It was also very pleasing to see that more students gained A to C grades than in the previous year. This is against a national trend of falling high grades. A Levels are undoubtedly more rigorous year on year and the fact that our students have ‘bucked’ this trend is all credit to their hard work and our lecturers dedication and professionalism

I am sure that those going on to Higher Education will be equipped with the skills and knowledge gained at the college to succeed in their chosen course. I wish them every success for the future.”

Stephanie Ansell – Art - A. Media - B. Psychology D.

“I got really good results which gave me 250 UCAS points, meaning that I get into my first choice university of Plymouth; I’m so proud and excited about that. I’ll be doing Educational Studies which is an exciting opportunity that will involve me travelling to different countries - it will be brilliant!

The college really played its part in helping me to get the grades – the tutors pushed me to do my best and were always there to help me when I needed it. I’ve loved the whole independence aspect of college where you feel you can really grow as an individual and I’ve met so many great people here that I’ll miss.”

Stephanie's mum Tricia added:

“We’re so pleased with Steph’s results, she’s worked really hard. She found it tough at first but knuckled down and really turned it around for her herself with the help of her teachers.”

Daniel Jones – Photography - A*. English - C. Geography B.

“I’m going to Royal Holloway to do Geography; I’m so excited and can’t wait to go now I know I’ve got the grades to get me there. I’m working today but will be celebrating tonight.

The help and support I’ve had from my tutors has been brilliant; I didn’t do great in my Photography AS Level last year so to get an A* in my A Level this year is unbelievable! The teachers have been dedicated in helping us all individually to get what we need. I will definitely miss the community feel within the college, it’s a friendly place.”

Charlie Corfield – AS Chemistry - C.  Human Biology - C.

“I am really pleased with my results. I came here to do the biology course which would get me onto the course I wanted at university as it wasn’t available at my previous school. It means I can go on to the university I wanted, St George’s in London, to do Cardiovascular Physiology. I’ve gained so much freedom at college but have been well supported too by the tutors, you know they’re there if you need them.“

Mum jean added:

“Charlie has done brilliantly. I am very proud of the work she’s done in the year that she’s been here and now she can go on to do what she wants to do.”

Megan Butcher -  AS Levels - Sociology - C. Politics - D. History D.

“I can now continue onto A2 next year which I am really happy about. The teaching standards are really good here; I had to re-take all of my GCSEs when I came here last year and managed to them pass them all with help and encouragement from my tutors. I was then able to go on and study AS Levels this year and can now continue with my A2s next year.

I found out two weeks ago that I have dyslexia so next year I will receive even more support from the college to help me succeed and get better grades again.”
