Learning for Living Open Event

15 December 2014

Wick Hill
Our staff and students at Bracknell & Wokingham College, Wick Hill Centre, recently welcomed potential and future students of the Learning for Living foundation course. Tea and cakes were offered with a look around the facilities highlighting student projects like art, gardening and woodwork skills.

The course is designed for 16-24 year olds with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. The students are taught life skills for work and personal development.

Robbie Lee, a student at the college said:

“It’s different from school. There’s more to do and you’re made to do it yourself. They really help you with everything here; I can even now buy things in shops, which I had difficulty with before.”

This is now the second year for the course, the first was very successful with all students passing and gaining a Diploma in Life Skills.

Learning practical skills such as how to change a tyre on a car, cooking and growing plants has given the students more independence. Learning maths, English and IT in a safe and encouraging environment has helped them with everyday tasks such as shopping for daily living.
