UCAS info for parents

08 October 2014

Our annual Higher Education Information Evening for Parents, held recently, gave parents an opportunity to find out how to support their son or daughter whilst making their university choices.

The talk included presentations on the admissions procedure by Francesca Carey, Marketing Officer (Schools & Colleges) from Brunel University; the financial side of university by Louise Girling, Schools and Colleges Liaison Officer for Buckingham New University; and an insight into life in Higher Education by Undergraduate Samson Ana, From Brunel University.

Karen Gallagher, Careers Adviser, arranged the event and was pleased with the outcome of the night:

“We had a great turn-out with 71 parents representing 42 students attending, and they are now in a better position to support their son or daughter with their university choices. It was a positive evening and we’ve had lots of feedback from parents saying the speakers gave useful and vital information, and answered their questions thoroughly.”

Carmen Lester, mother of A Level student Charmaine Lester, from Windlesham, attended the talk and found it beneficial:

“The talk was interesting. The speakers gave engaging and clear messages whilst giving honest accounts of the process. The information on finances was very useful.”

Claire Hart’s son, Jason Hart, A Level student at the college and from Reading, is considering university and came to the presentation to find out more information on the financial side of the process:

“This was a very useful conference and gave me a good insight into what university life would be like for my son.”

Students are invited to a similar event on Wednesday 25 March to find out for themselves about Higher Education. Contact karen.gallagher@bracknell.ac.uk to find out more.
