Food, fun & festivities

Travel and Tourism students worked in partnership with fellow Hair, Beauty Therapy and Hospitality students in putting on a pampering event for local residents to raise money for the RSPCA.

Visitors to the pamper event began their day in the college’s Harmony salon with the Hairstudents for a hair wash, blow dry and style. They were then lead through to the dining area where the Hospitality and Travel and Tourism students served up a feast of Christmas dinner, mince pies, bucks fizz and plenty of merriment.

Tina Fisher, Crownwood, was enticed to the pamper session by her friend Rose Chanel, Priestwood, who is a regular attendee of college events. Tina said:

“This is my first time here and I am definitely coming back. Everyone has been so nice and friendly, the treatments have been fabulous and the food is delicious. Where else can you get service like this for so little a cost?”

Rose, later commented on Facebook:

“Excellent dinner and we were well looked after by the students, well done all of you.”

After the Christmas meal, filled with food and Christmas glee, the guests then returned to the salon for manicures.

Travel and Tourism Lecturer Dawn Harrage, oversaw the student’s efforts at bringing the event together:

“The students have done a tremendous job and have learnt valuable employability skills. They’ve had to communicate productively with the other departments, ensure timings for the day so things don’t run behind or too quickly, and all the while, keep a high level ofcustomer service.

“The students have also learnt a great deal about problem solving through this task. Events can be planned on paper to the finest detail, but until it runs, you don’t know what difficulties you will be faced with. The students have risen to the occasion and worked together effectively solving any issues as they appeared.”
