Fairtrade Fortnight

08 October 2014

This year’s Fairtrade Fortnight, 24 February – 9 March 2014, is focusing on a new campaign to ‘Make Bananas Fair’. Our Study Support Social Club members have been finding out what it’s all about.

Sarah Mortimer, Study Support Lecturer, set up the club in January 2013 to give students a place to go at lunch times once a week, a place to meet other students and to learn informative life skills; such as, social skills and about current affairs. She said of the session:

“This week we wanted to educate the students about Fairtrade Fortnight, what it actually means and why it’s important; to help the students make more informed decisions about the products they are buying.

“We like to make these sessions informative and fun too, as it is their lunch time – the students joined in with games, trying different Fairtrade foods, watching the Fairtrade’s ‘Stick with Foncho to Make Bananas Fair’ video and were enthusiastic to learn about the subject.”
