Amy Childs talks Beauty

08 October 2014

Bracknell & Wokingham College’s Beauty Therapy students were recently treated to a special visit from TOWIE star and beauty therapist Amy Childs.

Giving an insight into the different opportunities available to the trainee therapists, once they qualify, Amy talked about her own experiences in the beauty industry:

“I’ve loved coming and talking to the students today. They’ve all been lovely, they look really professional, and have interacted with me really well asking lots of questions; you can tell they’re passionate about beauty and just wanted to find out more about it all from my point of view.”

Amy also spoke to her captive audience about how she got to where she is now; from working as a therapist in various spas, to becoming an entrepreneur with her own clothing label, beauty range and beauty salon in her home county of Essex:

“I’ve been in their shoes and I wanted to come and give them my experiences, especially of starting at the bottom. I wanted to get across to them that the beauty industry may seem all-glamorous, but it’s hard work and you need to work hard to succeed in it.”

The college has recently started using Amy’s tanning range which gave her the chance to discuss and demonstrate the products to the students. Level 2 Beauty student, Millie Wright jumped at the chance to try out Amy’s spray tan:

“It’s amazing to think I had Amy Childs teaching me how to use her products, it was a great experience. She’s so down to earth and gave us some good advice.”

Beauty Therapy Lecturer Nikki Hutchings arranged the event for the students after meeting Amy at a beauty show last year:

“The college will be using Amy’s tanning range to train the students and so who better to show the students how it works, than the creator herself. I’m so pleased with how well today has gone; the students were so excited and loved having her here.

“From Amy speaking about her own time in the beauty industry, it has really helped to emphasise to the students what we teach here at college about the realities of working in the beauty industry.”

Mark Packham, Co-ordinator Hair & Beauty, explains why events such as these are important for the students’ development:

“We hope to give our students real-life experiences that help them to develop; and by inviting guests in to speak with our students, we hope for them to take all that they can from hearing about others’ personal experiences in the industry.”

Bracknell & Wokingham College offer various courses in Beauty Therapy with full-time courses, part-time courses and Apprenticeships.
