Sun shines on college Open Event

06 October 2014

After weeks of bad weather the sun finally came out on Saturday and so did visitors to our Open Event.

Almost 500 visitors looking for both full-time courses and adult part-time leisure or professional courses came along to see the college facilities and talk to tutors. Many were youngsters who will complete their school education in September and are now preparing for their next step in education or training following the introduction of the government’s Raising the Participation Age (RPA) initiative which comes into force in 2013.

One visitor commented as they left:

“Thank you for today it has been really eye opening and my son has now completely changed his mind on what he wants to do next year and will be sending his application to you”.

Principal Campbell Christie CBE introduced his new items on the agenda at the Open Event with his Principal’s Breakfast and Lunch. Visitors were invited to come along and sample some delicious treats created by our Hospitality students whilst also posing questions to the Principal and a panel of college representatives, including current student Abbie Ellis.

The Open Event also included the chance to discuss the new 24+ Advanced Loans with college representatives for the first time at our stand based in the vibrant and busy Star Café. These loans are available to those aged 24+ who are starting a Level 3 course on or after 1 August 2013 to help pay the costs charged by colleges and training organisations.

James Taylor, Vice Principal of Curriculum & Quality said:

“These events are so important to help both students and parents understand what they can expect from college and help them make an informed choice about whether this is the right path for them to take.

If you missed this event the next Open Event is on Wednesday 26 June 4-7.30pm but in the meantime the advice from the college is to get your applications in now – there is no obligation and they do not want you to miss out on a place.
