Students look to next level

06 October 2014

We gave our first-year students a leg-up to university with our annual Higher Education Conference last week.

101 students aged 16-18 attended the event, which gave them a full introduction to university life.

Amanda Hall, Schools & Colleges Marketing Manager at Brunel University, ran a session about the UCAS admissions procedure:

“We come along to events like this because we know that anyone attending them is interested in coming to university. There’s lots to take in when you’re choosing a university, so the more information you can gather the better.

“Putting the time in with young people now, as they are making their minds up about where to apply, means that we get better candidates.”

Chris Page, an undergraduate at Reading University spoke about Life in Higher Education:

“I like to encourage young students to go into Higher Education and to give them some insight into student life. When you’re choosing universities to apply to you should go for those you feel comfortable with.

“I’d say that the more you put into the university experience, the more you’ll get out.”

Brian Uzzell, the college’s Director of Student Services, said:

“We always try to give our students the best preparation we can for university, and of course it’s about more than achieving qualifications.

“Hopefully today has made Higher Education clearer as these students start thinking about their career choices in a few months’ time.”
