Photography students get professional

06 October 2014

First year BTEC photography students recently discovered what it is like to set up a professional photo shoot for a client.

The students’ brief was to set themselves up as a partnership with other students, give themselves a corporate identity and then plan a shoot for a client, with tutor Tracy Wilhelmy taking the role of the client. These partnerships then competed to take the photo which best reflected Tracy’s personality with the winner to appear on the tutor profile page for Photography on our websitehttp://www.bracknell.ac.uk/school_leavers/curriculum/photography.aspx

Student Charlotte Searle spoke of what she had learned from the experience:

“We learned a lot about how to deal with a client in a professional manner to get the best shots that you want. We also learned how to cope with technical difficulties in a professional way so that they did not disrupt the client or the shoot”.

Student Rebecca Arkell also found the task very rewarding:

“We got to show that we can focus when working as a team which is an important skill. It was a new experience which let us get a feel of a studio environment and directing a client. It showed us that we can handle ourselves professionally and calmly in a slightly stressful environment”.

The students got very creative with some of their shots and their ‘client’ Tracy was asked to pose whilst eating cake, dressed as a cow, wearing a sombrero and blowing bubbles.

This produced some great results but there could only be one winning partnership and that was B&W Studios, made up of Charlotte Wise and Libby Vine. The runners up were Instant Desires made up of Emma Durbridge, Lauren Wise and Sharnie Winter, and Fowke Studios made up of Louise Brundish, Rachel Lea and Joanna Fowke.

Tutor and ‘client’ Tracy Wilhelmy said:

“I thought the students did an excellent job – they were highly professional and organised and I am really impressed by the results, although I’m still not sure about the cow outfit!”
