Official opening by HRH The Earl of Wessex

06 October 2014

On Wednesday 29 September 2010 HRH The Earl of Wessex officially opened the new Church Road centre for Bracknell & Wokingham College.

He took a tour of the building, laughing and joking with students and staff and met some of the people who helped create the new building.

After the tour he enjoyed a song and dance show by our performing arts students. Following a speech from the Principal, Howard O’Keeffe, the Earl of Wessex then took to the stage to unveil the plaque, adding great humour to the formal occasion.

He joked "I have to warn you that the unveiling of the plaque is not necessarily the most exciting thing! So what I want you to do is to pretend that it is the most exciting thing since I don’t know when."

To thunderous applause from the crowd he then unveiled the plaque.

On his way out he signed our visitor book and was presented with a gift from four year old Baylie Egglestone who attends the college nursery.

A Level student Alex Wilson said "It was good to have him there showing an interest in the community. He asked me about my course and my plans for the future. I told him I wanted to join the Army and he was really pleased and interested."
