Lessons in Snappy business advice

06 October 2014

Photography students from Bracknell & Wokingham College had a valuable lesson on how to start their own business. A joint pilot initiative, between Bracknell & Wokingham College and Business Link, has been designed to give students all the tools they need to be able to start their own business when they leave college.

Twenty students, all studying for their City & Guilds Levels 2 and 3 in Photography, enjoyed a presentation titled ‘Foundation for Success’ from Business Link. The course proved so popular that some students have asked to do the follow-up workshops on ‘Planning for Success’, ‘How to Win and Keep Customers’ and ‘Managing Money’.

Teresa Hamilton, Photography Course Manager at the College, said: “We really like to add value to our courses so the students can finish their course feeling enriched and confidentenough to put their skills to use.”

Jonathan Cleaver, from Woodley, director of 360 Media Studio, and studying for his Level 3 City & Guilds award said: “This course has been a great addition to our main photography course. It gives you an insight to business and will help some students choose if this is the correct path for them.”

Aftab Juna, from Winnersh, studying for his Level 2 City & Guilds award, said: “I decided to attend this course as it was being offered for free by Business Link. It is a useful starting point to explore whether going into business is actually suitable for a person. The session is very informal and people are made to feel free to contribute and exchange views and ideas. This is a very valuable service offered by Business Link.”

Geoff Thornton, Business Link trainer, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Bracknell & Wokingham College to offer this service to their students. Business Link provides access to the information, advice and support you need to start, maintain and grow a business. It is anideal partnership.”
