College helps students to prepare university applications

06 October 2014

As the college year begins we are helping our students to think ahead to this time next year, when they hope to start University. The UCAS application process begins now for students and we are giving them a helping hand through a number of advice sessions organised by our dedicated careers staff.

Last week the students had the opportunity to hear from members of the student recruitment team at Reading and Southampton Solent Universities. Following on from our Higher Education conference earlier in the year, these sessions gave the students more advice on the UCAS system, online applications and writing their personal statements. The sessions were also used to remind students of the key dates approaching in the application process.

This week the students will also have the opportunity to attend a Personal Statement Clinic when representatives from Reading, Surrey, Brunel, Oxford Brookes and Southampton Solent universities. These representatives will review the students’ draft statements, offer advice on how to improve them and make them stand out from the crowd.

Karen Gallagher, Careers Advisor at the college said:

“Gaining a place on the course you want at one of your chosen universities is more competitive than ever and therefore it is vital that students ensure they write a personal statement that really highlights their strengths, experience and stands them apart from other applicants. We hope that through these sessions we can help our students understand how to do this and give them the best chance possible of getting where they want to go”.
