College helps local youngster fulfil his dreams

06 October 2014

When we saw in the Bracknell News last week that local youngster Charlie Crick, who recently discovered his rare illness is terminal, was asking for help to fulfil his dreams, our community spirit compelled us to try and do our bit.

An email to our senior staff and College Corporation members later and we had managed to find a way to help Charlie with two of the items on his ‘bucket list’ of dreams. Charlie wanted to be a judge on the X Factor and to meet Olly Murs.

Corporation member Andrew Stone was able to use his business connections to arrange for Charlie and his family, including his sister Lauren who is studying Health & Beauty at the college, to travel to Fountain Studios, Wembley for the X Factor results show dress rehearsal on Sunday.

Charlie got to sit in a judge’s chair whilst this year’s finalists and special guests McFly rehearsed. He was also able to meet and chat to Olly Murs, as well as his co-host from the Xtra Factor Caroline Flack and two of the finalists, James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas.

Mr Stone said afterwards:

“Through my business I have supplied all the lighting control systems that are used on X Factor since the show started so I know all the lighting team. I contacted the lighting director who forwarded my email to the X Factor Executive Producer. He immediately said no problem and got his production team to arrange everything.

I have a son myself of a similar age and I can’t begin to understand what the family must be going through, but hopefully if Charlie can realise some of the things on his list then his family will have memories to treasure forever.”

Charlie's mum Jo said:

"It was a fantastic day, Charlie really enjoyed himself and was constantly amazed by all that goes into making a program such as the X Factor. The highlight was meeting Olly Murs. We would like to thank everyone who was involed in arranging this for Charlie."
