Former IT student

"I’ve just finished at Bournemouth University where I did a degree in Business Information Technology and am now waiting to start a graduate scheme at Kingfisher; the owners of B&Q and Screwfix.

I’d heard really good things about this college from people that I know who came here so I thought I’d come and have a look. I came to an Open Event and wanted to do A Levels, but after speaking with the tutors of the IT course I thought it sounded really interesting so I decided that I’d give that course a go instead.

The tutors' enthusiasm for the subjects made me want to learn more, I don’t think I’d have got the same enjoyment out of the course at another college.

I'd recommend the college to people who don’t like school or want to move on from school learning. You get a different kind of education here, one that allows you to enjoy it more and take charge of your own learning so you can get what you want from it. It was a great stepping stone to university, I didn’t feel overwhelmed when I got there; the education I had here really prepared me for university life."

Former Travel & Tourism student

"I finished college four years ago and got straight into a Cabin Crew role with easyJet, and have since moved up to become a Cabin Manager.

I really believe I wouldn't have been able to get my first break without the college or the course. It was a big stepping stone as easyJet looked at my skills, my knowledge and even my attendance records. The tutors were great and most of the time it was such a fun atmosphere that it didn't really feel like learning.

The course really helped me to get ready for the work environment, so I would just say to try your best and take everything you can from your course as you'll be glad you did later on."

Alex Ruskin

Birmingham City University

Former A Level English, Global Government & Politics, Sociology student

"I did a year at Sixth Form but realised it wasn’t for me so I moved to Bracknell & Wokingham College. I felt they would treat me more like an adult, and I was able to mix and match my courses to study A Levels and a BTEC at the same time.

This helped me to find the direction I wanted to go in and I am now at university studying Criminology and Security Studies, which I am really enjoying. I don’t think I'd have been able to succeed at college or university without the support, inspiration and trust my college tutors gave me."

Connor Sharod-Southam

Octica Professional Ltd

Former BTEC Media student

"For me, college was more than just earning another qualification. I wanted a new environment, to meet new people and, most importantly, to be treated as a young adult.

Early on I found the learning at the college to go beyond the classroom and we had a number of visits from industry professionals who we could ask questions to. These things helped re-enforce the ethos of the college - to ensure that every student leaves, not only with good grades, but are ready for the world of work.

Without the knowledge and life skills taught to me at the college, I’m positive that I wouldn’t be able to undertake my current job with the confidence and effectiveness I feel I do."

David Forde

Total Futebol UK

Former BTEC Sport student

"I currently run my own football coaching company for primary schools, after school clubs, nurseries and academies in the area.

The course at college really helped me with this, and not just with the coaching aspect. We did modules on event planning and accounting which have been really beneficial for running my own business.

My tutors also encouraged me to go on to university and get a degree which I wasn’t really considering, but I am so glad I did as again it has helped me set up my own business and it was a great experience."

Fiona Williams

Former Counselling and French student

"I’ve completed several courses with the college previously, so I knew it would be a good environment for me in which to take up learning again. I’ve been learning French and have completed the Counselling Level 3 course; and have loved both courses.

The tutors have been dedicated in their teaching and go out of their way to help you and ensure you are progressing. I’ve learnt a lot of different skills through my courses that I can use both in my everyday life, and also if I decide to continue further with my education."

James Waldron

Barton Willmore

Former CAD student

"The college tutors were really helpful and taught me everything I needed to know about CAD and it was actually through my tutor that I got the information about the job opening for the role I am doing now.

They helped me with my application and supported us all in preparing for our next career steps with CV advice and practice interviews, which helped me with my own application. I really enjoy my job, there's never a boring moment and it’s exactly what I was hoping it would be."

Katie Ramsay

Norland College

Former CACHE Childcare student

"I am studying for a degree in Early Years Development & Learning at the famous Norland College in Bath. I have wanted to go to Norland since I was in Year 11 as I knew I wanted to work with children.

The Childcare course at college was really good and the tutors were amazing with the support they gave, whether we were going to university or straight to the workplace.

The assignments I get from Norland are just like the ones I did at college so I felt prepared when I arrived here. The college UCAS application workshops were really useful and they were brilliant at helping me with my application."

Lea Winchcombe

J25 Productions

Former Media student

"I have always wanted to be in the media business and chose to do Media at Bracknell & Wokingham College due to the variety of modules that the course had to offer.

I thrived in my course thanks to my tutors and the people around me, and was able to let out my creative side to find out more about myself and my style of working. I learnt all about the different aspects of the media industry which has helped me in setting up my own filmmaking business, and given me the confidence to make it a success."

Monique Palmer

Former A Level student in English, Business and Accountancy

"This summer I will be joining Fujitsu’s Accountancy Apprenticeship. It's extremely competitive to secure a place on this programme so when I found out I’d got a position, I was extremely excited and proud of myself.

I left the school environment and did A Levels at college because I wanted independence and to learn in a more mature environment. This independence helped me to become more self-motivated and determined to get a good Apprenticeship straight from college."

Sam Francis

Ascot Design

Former CAD student

"I work at Ascot Design as a CAD Technician. I wouldn’t be able to do my job without the training I had from Bracknell & Wokingham College which was directly transferable into my real job.

I chose this college as they offered the courses I wanted to study in, and they provide an excellent nursery facility for my son who has been there since I started college and is still there now.

The tutors are friendly and helpful and even helped me to find employment, which is how I found mine. By doing this course I learnt something valuable and have been able to start a career that I can build on."

Tara Devi Rai

Nepalese Parliament Member

Former ESOL student

"When I first moved to Bracknell, I wanted to speak English however it was difficult for me to understand the pronunciation of the language. Once I started the ESOL class I developed the confidence to speak and to write in English, and I will never forget that I got to learn the language from a grassroots level.

English was a useful and important language for me to learn because I am now a member of the Nepalese parliament. In my role I have to meet with national and international delegates and talk about the political, social and cultural situation of my country. I make sure I practice English with some of my friends in the parliament assembly and with my sons and daughter at home too."
