Prison reform
As Justice Minister Kenneth Clarke announces plans
for a radical reform of the prison system, we ask:
"Is the Government right to cut prisons and try new ways
of reducing criminal behaviour, or does prison work?"
"I'm not a fan
of the Conservatives but I agree with this policy.
"Prison doesn't work. People who go to prison don't learn their
lesson and they come out worse. I think prison should be kept for
people who commit more serious crimes.
"Petty crimes, like theft, should have a sentence to match, for
example community service. Putting people in prison for these
crimes is a waste of taxpayers' money."
