A greener
college
Since work started on our new building, we've taken care to
make sure it's as environmentally
friendly as possible.
The new Church Road centre has received a 'Very
Good' rating from BREEAM.
Ground source heating
Its most cutting edge green feature is
climate control.
There's no air conditioning. Instead,
the college is heated and cooled by
water pumped up from underground.
The ground temperature stays similar throughout the
year, unlike the air temperature outside. If it's
a hot day, the water pumped around the building will keep
everyone cool; if it's cold, the water
warms us up.
Only the coldest days will need extra radiator
heating, and the only energy we use is from the
pump sending water around the building.
Any other features?
- Automatic lighting - will
only switch on if someone's in the
room, and if there isn't enough natural light
- Double-glazing - saves energy by
keeping heat in
- Waste management - we've got a strict
separation policy onsite. That means plastics, paper,
card, cans and everything else has its
own disposal, making it much easier to
use again
- The old building - has been
crushed and reused as building material for the
new centre's car park and landscaping.
Keep it
green!
You can help us stay green; put your rubbish
in the right place.
All our bins are marked with the type
of waste they take - a little effort
from you goes a long way when it comes to
recycling.
Above all, don't litter!
