College offers training for London 2012
Bracknell & Wokingham College seized the
opportunity to host a Bridging The Gap (BtG) security course*
course open to all and offering the once-in-a-lifetime chance to be
a part of London 2012. Bracknell & Wokingham College chose to
host this event to give local young people the opportunity to be
part of the London 2012 experience. During October half term the
participants trained in the college’s Sports Hall, learning
conflict management, self-defence and the theory behind customer
service.
All BtG students are guaranteed an interview
to apply for work at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games
whilst they work towards a professional security industry
qualification.

James Price, lead trainer on the course
said:
“This week has gone really well, these young
people have been motivated and willing to learn; it has been great
watching them progress. From this course they can take many
pathways including security, public services and spectator events.
Although they will need continuous development, this is a great
start for them. Some of the key aspects they have learnt include
conflict management and communications. Both of these skills will
help them in any career they want to pursue – it has been a
pleasure teaching a group of this calibre.”
Charis Griffith who is on the Uniformed Public
Services Course at Bracknell & Wokingham College said:
“I had heard about the course previously from
friends; so when College offered the opportunity to apply, I jumped
at the chance. The things that I have learnt this week have really
helped with understanding of my public services course”

Emily Bartlett, an A Level student at
Sandhurst school said:

it opens more doors for me to be a part of sports events and
festivals, the chance to work at the Olympics was a bonus! I found
that a lot of the theory we have learnt this week has also helped
the awareness my own safety when I am out and about in nightclubs
and at other public events.”
