Apprentices the engine of business growth

The college Apprenticeship team has invited local garages to find out how they could take on an apprentice and benefit their business. College training advisers will show garage owners around the state-of-the-art training facilities, introduce them to current apprentices and talk them through the best way to get their own apprentices on board.

John Hawksley, Workbased Learning & Contracts Manager, said:

“We offer a stress-free matching service to employers. The team matches up the right apprentice with the employer for free.

“An apprentice is a great way to grow a business out of the recession and an investment for your future. The national apprentice minimum wage for a 16-18 year old is £2.50 per hour. The training part of the Apprenticeship is funded, so employer and employee get that for free too.”

Employers will be treated to a buffet, a tour and all the information they need.

Dave Crombie, owner of Voltaward, and his son TimDave Crombie of local garage Voltaward Ltd said this of the college’s previous event:

“We attended the Information event last year to take a look around the brand new college and were blown away by how amazing the facilities were.

“Apprenticeships are the only way forward. Thirty years ago they were the norm, nowadays there aren’t enough employers taking on apprentices. Ultimately apprentices help companies as well as being trained.”
