Young Apprentices take part in Hairdressing
competition
Young Hairdressing apprentices aged between 14
and 16 from Bracknell & Wokingham College took part in a
Hairdressing competition this week.
The school pupils, who are all on the Young
Apprenticeship programme, put together their designs and mood
boards in class in preparation for the competition.
Molly Robinson, 15, from Bracknell, won first
prize in the competition. “I can’t believe I won. The inspiration
behind my design was a Geisha doll; I chose to do something a bit
different because I thought it would stand out from the crowd. I
originally chose to do hairdressing because I love cutting hair
and
designing new hair styles, it feels good when
someone goes away happy with their haircut.”
Jane Tippett, a Hairdressing lecturer at
Bracknell & Wokingham College said: “The Hair competition is a
great opportunity for the students to show off all the skills they
have learnt so far by putting it into one big look. The Young
Apprenticeship programme is so important because it gives the
youngsters a chance to learn about hair and to get an insight into
what a career in hairdressing involves.”
Prizes on the day included top of the range
hair products, which were kindly donated by L’Oreal, the college’s
product partner. The prizes were awarded to the three students who
created the best and most creative hair designs. The runner up
prize went to Clareece Margery, 15, from Bracknell. The third place
prize went to Emily Hatt, 15, from Bracknell.
Young Apprenticeships (YA) give 14-16 year old
students the opportunity to pursue industry-specific vocational and
vocationally-related learning programmes alongside the National
Curriculum.
