College helps jobseekers with care event
63 jobseekers came to our Opportunities in the
care sector event on 8 April.
The event was the first of its kind in the
college’s new Church Road centre and was organised in partnership
with Jobcentre Plus. Visitors had a chance to meet
potential employers and voluntary organisations.
Our Care
Ambassadors ran workshops explaining their own
working backgrounds, which included nursing and ward management at
Stoke Mandeville hospital, and residential and community care for
people with learning disabilities.
Visitors were able to put themselves in the
shoes of those they could be supporting in a care career. One
exercise involved wearing special glasses that
mimic the effect of a stroke on your
eyesight.
Lisa Halfacre of Bracknell enjoyed the
workshop and the exhibition:
“I found the workshop very informative and a
good background to possible jobs and a career path in
social care.
"The other people there had lots of questions
too and were interested in a wide spectrum of jobs in social care.
This event has been a great first stepping stone
to finding out about my future career.”
