Your Study Options

Deciding on a course can be difficult and we have qualified, experienced staff who can help you choose the best route to your future career.  The College is Matrix Accredited which means we have been recognised for the high standard of impartial information, advice and guidance we provide learners, and the support given.

Vocational qualifications

Vocational qualifications such as BTECs or City & Guilds are perfect for you if you want to concentrate on learning practical skills. They prepare you for a career in a specific industry and give you a well-recognised qualification, often without the need for formal exams. You will study over one or two years on practically-based projects.

We offer Vocational qualifications in 20 subjects at all levels and you will start at the level best suited to your GCSE results. On completion of your Vocational qualifications you will be ready for employment or to go on to university level study.

A Levels

A Levels give you the option to study in different areas – you will choose up to four but usually three subjects from the 18 we offer. The majority of your study will be classroom based. There will be reading, research and essay writing to complete in your time out of college with exams at the end of the year.

A Levels are two year, full-time study programmes. A Levels can give you the option for further study at university or you can go straight into work.

Mix and Match

You can Mix and Match some vocational BTEC courses with an A Level – look out for the logo. These are:

  • Art Level 3 Diploma, (BTEC with an A Level)
  • Media Level 3 Diploma (BTEC with an A Level)
  • Photography Level 3 Diploma (BTEC with an A Level).

It may be possible to study an A Level alongside other BTEC Level 3 courses but this will be dependent on the individual timetable of that qualification and we can discuss it at your interview.

Apprenticeships are more popular than ever and allow you to start your career straight away. You will earn whilst you learn by working and studying at the same time.

We will monitor your progress and support you at work and when you come to college on day release. Apprenticeships are also an option if you want to progress from full-time study into employment. We offer Intermediate, Advanced and Higher Level Apprenticeships.

Higher education

Whatever your ambitions we can help you progress into higher education as many of our students do. For those wanting a higher education course, but in a local setting, we can offer you part-time business degree, degree apprenticeships and Foundation Degrees.

Access to higher education
