The Honest Truth

The Honest Truth is an international road safety scheme which originated in Devon in 2009 following a fatal crashed which killed three young people. The Honest Truth involves Police Services, Fire and Rescue Services, Local Authorities, Approved Driving Instructors and National Volunteer Police Cadet Units across the country working together to reduce the number of road deaths and serious injuries involving young people.

Bracknell & Wokingham College has become the first College in the country to run the scheme with the Uniformed Public Service students being trained to deliver the scheme across the Bracknell and Wokingham area working alongside the Bracknell and Wokingham Police Cadets. The partnership has been active in Bracknell since July 2016.

The Honest Truth which one are you

The scheme involves introducing young people to dangerous driver and passenger traits by associating those traits with animals. Once you have recognised the animal you are you can start to make small changes in order to improve your driving and road safety. The Uniformed Public Service students educate young people through the use of videos, interactive exercises and presentations. The scheme is aimed specifically at 17-24 year olds.

The videos and presentations range from explanatory videos on The Honest Truth such as above to hard hitting videos on the consequences of dangerous driving such as below. The Honest Truth can also be tailored to specific audiences to have the biggest impact.

The Uniformed Public Service students have also been filming and editing their own road safety video for The Honest Truth scheme based on a Road Traffic Collision. The Uniformed Public Service students and Bracknell and Wokingham Police Cadets will also be running a stand on The Honest Truth at the Bracknell Public Service Show on the 29th of September.
