A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is designed to allow you to learn at work and get recognition for the job you do every day.

 

Why should I do an NVQ?

It gives you the chance to prove your skills and experience. It may highlight new training needs.

 

NVQs vs. school

It's as valid as other classroom qualifications such as GCSEs, A Levels, Diplomas and Certificates.

 

NVQ Level... is equivalent to...
Level 1 5 GCSEs at grades D-G
Level 2 - Apprenticeship 5 GCSEs at grades A-C
Level 3 - Advanced Apprenticeship 2 A Levels, BTEC National Diploma
Level 4 - Technician, Manager HNC, HND, Undergraduate degree
Level 5 - Director Postgraduate degree, Doctorate

How do I do an NVQ?

  • You work at your own pace
  • You study at your own workplace
  • You can attend college sessions for some courses
  • You will build a portfolio of work-based evidence
  • Our experienced assessors will offer advice and guidance

 

 

What are the entry requirements?

There are no entry requirements.

However, you should be working in the relevant sector (paid or unpaid) and be able to show your level of skill and knowledge for your job.  You need the support of your employer or manager.
