19+ Bursary Guidance 2016-2017

Bracknell and Wokingham College is able to provide bursary financial   support to students from funds awarded to the College from the Education Funding Agency or the Skills funding agency via Capita for this purpose.

Key Principles

  • Bursary Financial Support is provided to support learners with a specific financial need that could prevent them from participating in learning.
  • Funding is focused on individuals who are financially disadvantaged.
  • The budget for Bursary Support is finite; learners who are eligible for support are not automatically entitled to it.
  • Free Meals is an entitlement; learners who are eligible are automatically entitled.

Areas of financial support if the total household income is below £21,000

  • Travel if using public transport and if you live more than 3 miles walking distance from College up to a maximum of £1000 per academic year
  • Lunch vouchers (including Free Meals scheme for students with an EHCP and 19-25 of age) for days with at least 5hrs of timetabled lessons
  • Books, equipment and clothing where it is a requirement for the course
  • UK Trips – at the discretion of student services dependant on available funding
  • 25% remission/reimbursement of tuition fees
  • Exam costs (only if the exam cost is not included as part of the tuition fee – up to a maximum of £50)
  • Childcare. If you are 20 or older up to the value of £100 per week per family. Student Services will contact you to discuss details. If you are 19 you must apply for care to Learn and should speak to a member of the Student Services team for more Information.

Areas of financial support if the total household income is between £21,000 and £31,000

  • Travel if using public transport and if you live more than 3 miles walking distance from College up to a maximum of £800 per academic year.

Free Meals

  • Students with an EHCP whose household income is below £16,190 are entitled to free meals (via meal vouchers) for days with at least 5hrs of timetabled lessons.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You are aged 19 or over on 31 August 2016 and are studying a Level 1,2,3 or 4 course.
  • You are ordinarily resident in the UK and the College’s Admissions Team have categorised you as a ‘Home fee payer’.
  • You have been accepted onto and are studying a programme of Adult Skills learner provision. This currently includes full-time A Level/BTEC/ESOL and Access to Higher Education courses that are funded by the Education Funding Agency or the Skills funding agency.
