Carole Hickman
Picture the scene. I'm helping to teach
an A Level Maths class. I'm really enjoying the challenge, and the
repartee of the students, when one of them says ”I really enjoy
your company Carole; you remind me of my...Gran!!!”
What!? There’s me thinking "I'm a young 60
year old, I don’t look my age!
"I’ll show these whippersnappers", I thought,
so I applied for the A Level and was accepted.
It was nerve-wracking stuff.
It's easy for teachers to say, ”If you’ve done
the work you will pass the exam”. Sitting at that desk trying to
remember all I'd learnt was very difficult.
A Level modular maths is not easy. The
pressure is always on to learn, revise and sit exams. Back in my
day we could relax for a term or two and then revise like mad. Not
so now.
I passed all six modules over two
years and was awarded an A grade.
I enjoyed my time in class and had a great
time with the other students.
I admired the amount of work most of them do
to fit their studies around their jobs, and appreciated our many
achievements.
